If a parent makes a child feel like an important part of the family, that child will undoubtedly become a more responsible adult. Proper family values instill within us trustworthiness and responsibility. We learn to be more accepting of others if we ourselves feel accepted. We build stronger relationships and co-worker bonds in the future and we are more enabled to deal with society. It is also important for a parent to praise their child for a job well done. By doing this, a parent is building a child’s confidence and letting the child know that he/she has the ability to learn. That child will then go through life confidently developing new skills. So what happens when a child does not develop healthy self esteem? Well, there can be numerous consequences. Low self esteem can cause a person to feel like they don’t belong within any group, they can’t learn anything new and they can’t accomplish anything in life. Worse of all, low confidence can make a person feel like they have nothing to offer to the world. Those types of feelings can be mild, but sometimes they can become dangerous. That is why it is important to instill a healthy self-worth in a child at an early age. |
